One can see a variety of Shanti Karmas unique to the Sinhala traditions and the Sri Lankan Shanti Karma literature goes back to a very distant history. This association has prepared for the study of various Hela Shanti Karmas such as Perahera, Shantikarma, Villages etc. which are held all over the country in order to make it clear that we should not destroy our cultural elements and embrace modernity in the face of such situations which cannot be controlled even by modern technology.

The wonderful moment of Annual Ther Entering the
Mayurapathi Sri Badra Kaali Amman Kovil Premises
In one of his poems T.S. Eliot has described the predicament of man who
with all the progress and success has made in science and technology
finds that endless inventions and experiments bring us knowledge of
words, but not of stillness.
Lord Shiva without Sakthi is all stillness since it is Sakthi which
stirs Him to motions and speech.
Shiva is the word, it is Sakthi which moves him to words. The union
between them is represented by the image of Shiva as “Artha Nariswara”,
half man and half woman. Further, Sakthi herself takes different forms.
Sometimes, she is stern and formidable.
Furthermore, of the many Gods in the Hindu Pantheon, none is revered
more than Mother Goddess. She is Parvathy, Durgai and Kali. Indeed, the
compassion a mother shows not only to her children, but also to the
community has no parallel.
In the religions farlance the “Divine Mother” is termed as the
extra-ordinary intermediary who pleads with God to show mercy to a real
penitent when he may not be inclined to do so in view of the enormity of
sins.
In fact, the Hindu temples are intended to instruct men in the art of
removing the veil of attachment that covers their hearts. Thus the
renowned poet “Thiyagarajah” cried in the temple at Thirupathi “Remove
the veil, O! remove the veil of attachment, the veil of pride and
hatred.”
Further, the temples are the centres of discipline where the aspirant is
guided step by step to attain a vision of the truth. They are the
schools for the training of the spirit, academics for the promotion of
Sastraic studies.
They are meant for the testing of the values of life and to awaken the
divinity and humanity inducing man to believe that the physical frame in
which he lives is itself the house of God.

Even, Pon Vallipuram has built “Chithira Ther” with the financial
contributions of several philanthropists, numerous devotees and
well-wishers. Today, this temple has a wedding hall, hall for conducting
cultural programmes and an Araneri Hindu School for sake of the
children who are in the vicinity.
Pan Vallipuram has organised several cultural programmes for the sake of
the devotees this year. Selvi Thesa Mangayarkarasi, a discipline of
Thirumuruga Kirupanantha Variyam of Madusai, Tamil Nadu has been
specially invited by P.M. Vallipuram to deliver religious discourses
from July 19 to 28. She will deliver discourses as subjects pertaining
to Vinaitheerkum Vinayagar,” Thirupukal Inbam,” “Rama Avathasam,”
Paarvathy Thirukalyanam”, Sita Thirukalyanam,”, Vallalas Tharum Valvu”,
Thiropathy Thirukalyanam,” Theivasena Thirukalyanam,” Penkalin Perumas”
and “Adiyarku Adiyar”.
When people became advanced and enlightened, sacrifice took other forms,
and certain varieties of fruits, vegetables, coconuts and rice balls
were substituted for animals. In the refined stage in which temple
worship has been brought into prominence, sacrifices are made in the
shape of rice balls, and an edifice called Balipitam is invariably
constructed as part of every temple for this purpose.
